TESSTED: Piper Heidsieck Wines

Apart from all the bubbles I get offered at fashion events I rarely ever drink alcohol and know the slightest thing about wine. So when I was invited for a Piper Heidsieck wine tasting this week I thought I might give it a try and learn something more about the brand’s fancy drinks.

At restaurant Everything On A Stick, which has just opened in Amsterdam me and a group of other fashion and food writer joined the tasting. Christian Holthausen, Communications Director of Piper-Heidsieck, explained us all about the history of the brand, the way the wines are produced and the difference between the types of wines. He even gave us some practical tips, like how to hold your wine glass (by the stem, not the bowl).

I tasted six different wines (Piper-Heidsieck Brut, Piper-Heidsieck Rosé Sauvage, Piper-Heidsieck Rare 2002, Piper-Heidsieck Demi Sec, Piper-Hiedsieck Vintage 2004 and Piper-Heidsieck Cuvee Brut), each serves with a different matching plate (served on a stick, of course). Turns out the lightest one was my favorite. Oh well..I’ll  never be a heavy drinker.
